Her engineering background spans robotics, medical devices, and automotive systems.

CATIA users in aerospace and automotive face a distinctive AI landscape. Dassault Systemes has invested heavily in AI messaging across its 3DEXPERIENCE platform, and some of those features are real and shipping. But a majority of CATIA engineers, particularly those in aerospace primes and Tier 1 automotive suppliers still running CATIA V5 locally, are looking at a platform where essentially none of those features apply. And the workflow problem that costs every CATIA engineering team the most time, the inability to search your ENOVIA vault or file server by design intent, remains completely unaddressed by Dassault's own tooling.

This guide covers what AI tools actually exist for CATIA users in 2026, where the real value is, and how to separate Dassault's conference messaging from what is deployed and usable today.

The Core Challenge: CATIA V5 vs. 3DEXPERIENCE

Before reviewing any AI tools, there is a critical platform distinction that affects every recommendation. All of Dassault's native AI features for CATIA require 3DEXPERIENCE, their cloud-based platform. CATIA V5, which the majority of aerospace and automotive teams still run as their production system, receives none of these features. There is no AI roadmap for V5. If your organization is on CATIA V5, migrating to 3DEXPERIENCE is a significant infrastructure decision, not just a software upgrade.

This means the AI landscape for CATIA splits sharply depending on which platform you are on, and most industry conversations do not make this distinction clearly.

Leo AI: Find Any Part in Your CATIA Environment in Under 10 Seconds

The most expensive productivity problem in CATIA environments is not that the software is slow or that engineers lack design tools. It is that institutional knowledge is locked in file systems. An aerospace team with 20,000 CATpart files and a decade of design decisions in their PDM system cannot search that knowledge by intent. Engineers search for "hydraulic bracket" and get 300 results. They open six, read the drawing notes in four, and still are not sure which was the production-approved version. Then they start from scratch.

Leo AI solves this with a patented Large Mechanical Model (LMM), the only AI that natively reads CAD geometry (B-rep) rather than just file names or metadata. An engineer types "titanium fitting rated for 8,000 PSI in a thermal cycling environment" or "fastener pattern from the 2022 wing rib assembly" and Leo returns ranked matches from your vault in under 10 seconds. This is not keyword matching. Leo understands the actual geometry and design properties of your CATpart and CATProduct files.

Beyond part search, Leo functions as an engineering knowledge agent across your entire CATIA environment. Ask it why a material was changed in a specific revision and it surfaces the drawing, the ECO, and the rationale. Engineering teams using Leo report saving 8.3 hours per engineer per week previously lost to search, re-research, and rebuilding designs that already exist. HP Indigo's program manager Yoni Nir: "Engineers routinely spend 3 to 5 hours searching for a single part, and most of the time they give up and create a new one instead, bloating the BOM and adding avoidable design cycles. With Leo, that search takes minutes."

Critically, Leo works with CATIA V5 and CATIA V6 files, ENOVIA vaults, and standard file directories. It does not require migration to 3DEXPERIENCE. A one-hour IT session connects Leo to your existing environment. All data is indexed in an isolated, encrypted environment: SOC 2 Type II certified, GDPR compliant, penetration-test approved. Your IP is never used to train any AI model. Leo is in use at HP, NVIDIA, Intel, Scania, and Elbit Systems.

Dassault's Native AI for CATIA: What Ships and What Doesn't

Dassault has been actively building AI features into CATIA on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. The important thing is understanding which version you are on and what actually ships today.

CATIA Command Intelligence (3DEXPERIENCE, available now): This AI analyzes your current context and suggests relevant commands based on what you have selected and what you typically do next. For users still learning the environment, it is more valuable. For experienced CATIA users, it is a minor convenience.

Mechanical Interface Prediction and Connection Assistant (3DEXPERIENCE, available now): AI analyzes surfaces and geometry to determine kinematic relationships and auto-generates interface-based connections with geometric constraints. Useful for assembly work on standard mechanical interfaces.

Aura Virtual Companion (3DEXPERIENCE, available now): A chatbot interface providing in-context guidance within CATIA. It is a general-purpose LLM assistant, not a CATIA-specialized AI model. It answers procedural questions and helps navigate workflows. It does not design parts, search your vault, or provide engineering calculations with cited references.

Generative Design (3DEXPERIENCE, available now): CATIA on 3DEXPERIENCE includes topology optimization and visual scripting for generative design workflows, integrating with SIMULIA for optimization-driven structural design. By 2026 generative design is standard across all major CAD platforms. This is a competent but not differentiating capability.

Dassault Leo Companion (announced, not yet shipped): Dassault announced an AI companion called Leo, not to be confused with Leo AI at getleo.ai, targeting engineering feasibility evaluation, scheduled for mid-2026. As of this writing, it has not been released to customers and should be treated as a roadmap item. It will be cloud-only, 3DEXPERIENCE platform only.

The CATIA V5 gap: If your organization runs CATIA V5, none of the above features are available. V5 users get no AI assistance from Dassault's current investment. This is a significant issue across aerospace, where V5 remains the production system at many primes and suppliers because of validated toolchains, export control requirements, and migration risk.

Simulation AI for CATIA: Ansys

For teams running FEA as part of the CATIA design workflow, Ansys integrates with CATIA, though the integration is more complex than with Creo or Inventor. CATIA V5 models (CATPart/CATProduct files) import into Ansys Workbench and can be updated bidirectionally via the Discovery interface and optiSLang for parametric optimization. Ansys FLUENT for CATIA V5 brings CFD capabilities with full associativity. These are real, mature integrations, though they require more manual workflow management than the native plugins Ansys provides for Creo and Inventor.

Ansys AI+ adds surrogate modeling, AI-accelerated meshing, and boundary condition suggestions based on geometry patterns. For teams running large simulation programs across many design iterations, these capabilities reduce compute time and analyst setup time meaningfully.

Topology Optimization Beyond CATIA Generative Design: nTopology

nTopology supports CATIA file import (CATPart and CATProduct), making it functional without requiring platform migration. The workflow imports CATIA geometry, applies lattice generation or field-driven topology optimization, and exports the result via STEP, Parasolid, STL, or 3MF.

For teams on 3DEXPERIENCE, nTopology also integrates with 3DEXPERIENCE Process Composer for automated workflow orchestration, connecting lattice design to meshing to FEA in a single pipeline. This tighter integration benefits teams running systematic design optimization programs in aerospace or medical devices.

How to Choose the Right AI for Your CATIA Workflow

The starting point is your platform.

If you are on CATIA V5: your native AI options are essentially zero. The practical tools available to you today are third-party solutions that work with your existing files. Leo AI for search and knowledge retrieval. Ansys via parameter-level integration for simulation. nTopology via file import for advanced geometry. None of these require a platform migration.

If you are on 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA: the native AI features are worth using. Command Intelligence and the constraint tools reduce friction in daily design work. Aura is useful for procedural guidance. Generative design is available for topology optimization workflows. The Dassault Leo Companion is worth watching for mid-2026, though it has not yet shipped.

Regardless of platform: if your vault has more than a few thousand parts and engineers regularly spend hours searching for components or re-researching questions that exist in your knowledge base somewhere, Leo AI delivers the fastest and largest productivity return. This is consistently the highest-impact workflow improvement for mature CATIA environments, and it is independent of whether you are on V5 or 3DEXPERIENCE.
