We Couldn’t Find a Place to Learn AI in Mechanical Engineering - So We Built One
When we started Leo AI, our first step was to listen. We searched for active online spaces where mechanical engineers could share what they wanted AI to do for them.
What we found instead was disappointing: dozens of inactive Facebook groups and subreddits, many openly dismissive of generic AI tools like GPT, which are irrelevant to the daily challenges of mechanical engineering.
The Gap in Our Profession
In webinars, customer interviews, and conversations with engineers, we kept hearing the same thing:
"I want to learn how AI is changing mechanical engineering."
"Where can I find practical tools and real examples for CAD, PLM, and design workflows?"
There was no single place dedicated to AI in mechanical engineering - no hub for sharing AI tools, engineering research, and real-world workflows tailored to our profession.
Why We Built the Mechanical Intelligence Community
That’s why we decided to take action and launch the Mechanical Intelligence (MI) Community - the first global AI community for mechanical engineers.
The MI Community is:
A space for pioneering MechEs to share the newest AI tools for CAD, PLM, and design.
A hub for industry news, research, and case studies.
A place to connect with the OGs of our profession - from senior engineers at SpaceX & Tesla to the co-founder of SolidWorks, and an MIT professor building AI for CAD generation.
A Historical Milestone in AI for Engineering
We believe the MI Community is more than just a networking space - it’s a historical milestone in the AI transformation of mechanical engineering.
In 20 years, when AI will be standard in every engineering workflow, those who join now will be able to say:
“I was there when it all started.”
Why This Matters for Mechanical Engineers
AI is no longer just for software developers and data scientists. It’s rapidly becoming a critical tool for:
CAD part search and design automation.
PLM integration and data retrieval.
Simulation and analysis with AI assistance.
Automating repetitive engineering tasks so we can focus on innovation.
The engineers who understand and leverage these tools early will lead the next generation of product design.
